Eleanna Finokalioti takes on the lead role of Sophia in Spirit of the Game: The Ultimate Musical, a new Off-Broadway production opening this May in New York.
Running May 14–17, 2026 at Asylum NYC, the original musical is set in Crete, Greece and combines a pop-rock score with elements of traditional Greek music.
Written by Philip Vlahakis, the show follows Johnny Diskakis, a former high school football player whose life takes a turn when he moves back to Crete with his father and ends up joining the Greek National Mixed Ultimate Frisbee Team.
Finokalioti’s Sophia plays a key role in the story. She forms a close connection with Johnny’s father, Yiorgos, and pushes him to face his past and change direction. The role also highlights her musical side, with two solo ballads and several featured moments in the show.
Directed and choreographed by Liz Piccoli, with musical direction by Julian Blackmore, the production moves between humor and drama, telling a story about second chances and personal growth.
Spirit of the Game: The Ultimate Musical was selected for the 2025 Florida Festival of New Musicals and has already drawn attention for its fresh concept and energetic score.
Finokalioti, who is originally from Crete, now brings a story set on the island to the Off-Broadway stage.
