The tourism ministry participated in the two-day conference on “Tourism and Green Investments” held in Riyadh on September 27-28, organised by the World Tourism Organisation (UNWTO) and Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Tourism as part of the celebration of World Tourism Day.
Greek Tourism Minister Olga Kefalogianni was represented by her adviser Konstantinos Zikos, who held meetings with the officials of Saudi Arabia.
Among the topics discussed were the promotion of cooperation and the strengthening of tourism between the two countries. The Greek participation follows the Memorandum of Cooperation in the field of tourism between the Greek tourism ministry and the Saudi Commission for Tourism and Antiquities of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, which was signed by the Kefalogianni in 2014.
The events were attended by more than 500 government officials, representatives of tourism ministries and experts from 120 countries.
Zikos met with the general secretary and it was agreed that in the next few days there would be a conference with Minister Olga Kefalogianni in order to finalise a proposal for organising a conference in Greece in the spring of 2024.
The presence in Riyadh of Israel’s Tourism Minister, Haim Katz, was of particular symbolism, in a visit of the utmost importance for relations between the two countries.
