A draft amendment by the Development ministry proposing measures to manage inflationary pressure on basic consumer goods was approved in Parliament on Wednesday.
The amendment calls for the following measures: a) An obligation by supermarkets to announce any price rise originating with distributors of basic consumer goods or goods that are in high demand, b) An introduction of signs that point out the products of businesses participating in the ‘permanent price reduction’ initiative, and c) An obligation to announce sample prices for retail sale of fruits and vegetables.
The amendment passed with the votes of ruling New Democracy, while the main opposition SYRIZA-Progressive Alliance, PASOK-Movement for Change (KINAL), Greek Solution, and Spartiates voted ‘present’. The Communist Party of Greece (KKE), Niki, and Plefsi Eleftherias voted against.
