On November 28th, the Hellenic Relief Foundation and its partner organization in Athens ΕΛΕΘΣΥ conducted their monthly food distribution benefitting around 280 families. The distribution was once again made possible with the support of the Social Committee of the Athenian Society, as well as corporations and individuals who donated basic staples.
The distribution took place under the direction of Ms. Maria Siourdi, director of the H.R.F’s partner organization, as well as volunteers Soula Belli, Antonia Pantouvaki, and Emy Spanou.
The H.R.F.’s food distribution efforts were made possible by the N. Konstantopoulou Group, Food Bank, FrieslandCampina (Nounou), Agrovim, Barba Stathis, Harisiadis Group, as well as Mr. Lorentzos Siganos and Mr. Stavros Mitrothanasis, Philanthropy Rep. of AHEPA HJ-55 Thucydides.
Just two days later on the other side of the Atlantic, the community of St. George in Clifton, NJ along with the Daughters of Penelope Kronos Chapter #188 (District 5) hosted a dinner dance with proceeds benefiting the H.R.F.’s Christmas donation. The evening was marked with a lively atmosphere full of dancing and good music, provided by Stavros Theodorou and his orchestra.
Partygoers enjoyed the homemade food, provided by H.R.F. members, and a multitude of homemade desserts, provided by the Daughters. The dance also featured a silent auction with artwork donated by artists in Thessaloniki for the purpose of raising funds for the H.R.F., and other fundraising efforts. Prior to the festivities, noted remarks were made by the DOP chapter president Stacey Panaretos Halkias, the council president John Pilavas, and Protopresbyter Fr. Peter Souritzidis. Thanks to the success of the event some 380 families will have the necessary items to have a traditional holiday meal, along with the monthly staples.
