The GNTO participated in Tourism Expo Japan 2023, aiming to restart Greece’s relations with the tourism market of Japan, in view of the proclamation of 2024 as the “Year of Culture and Tourism of Greece and Japan”.
Tourism Expo Japan 2023 is a major event organised by the Japan Travel and Tourism Association, the Japan Association of Travel Agents (JATA) and theJapan Tourism Agency, with the participation of 1,275 tourism businesses and organisations from 70 countries and tourism regions around the world.
The Hellenic Organisation of Tourism (EOT) participated as a co-exhibitor within the European Travel Commission (ETC) pavilion.
During the exhibition, targeted meetings were held with representatives of the Japan Tourism Agency, theJapan Association of Travel Agents(JATA) and major Tour Operators, such as JTB, Kinki Nippon Tourist, HIS, Hankyu Travel, Global Youth Bureau etc.
During the meetings it was found that:
Greece is an attractive tourist destination with special characteristics.
There is potential for further development of tourism flows to our country with an emphasis on culture, nature, gastronomy and honeymooning.
Athens, Mykonos, Mykonos, Santorini, Olympia, Delphi and Meteora are the main tourist destinations for the Japanese in Greece.
The 3-4 day cruises are also popular with the Japanese public and include Patmos, Rhodes and Crete.
The EOT was represented by the Head of the General Directorate of Administration, Organization and Promotion, Mrs. Sophia Lazaridou, accompanied by the Head of the Exhibitions Department, Mrs. Polina Vrachati. The meetings were supported by the Head of the Office of the Greek Embassy in Tokyo, Mr. Athanasios Karapetsas.
