A Memorandum of Cooperation was signed today, Wednesday, September 4th, by the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Giorgos Kotsiras, and the Head of the Public Employment Service (DYPA), Spyros Protopsaltis.
The memorandum aims to engage and inform Greeks living abroad about employment opportunities in Greece, while simultaneously designing and shaping a framework of actions and incentives (employment opportunities, entrepreneurship, training, etc.) to inform and re-attract them to the Greek labor market.
• Specifically, the cooperation includes: Continuous updating and exchange of information on initiatives, actions, and national and European programs (such as the promotion of employment, business grants, etc.) related to the employment of Greeks abroad who wish to return and integrate into the Greek labor market.
• The mutual utilization of the aforementioned information and related digital material, which will be created on the websites and social media of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (with an emphasis on those of the Foreign Authorities) and the Public Employment Service, to inform Greeks living abroad.
• The joint organization of informative seminars and other events (such as Career Days), with a focus on countries that experienced significant emigration during the period of economic crisis. These activities aim to promote the objectives of the Memorandum of Cooperation by informing Greeks abroad about the established benefits and incentives for their repatriation, as well as gathering any suggestions that could lead to the creation of new incentives.
• Collaboration with other organizations to implement the above actions.
Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Giorgos Kotsiras, stated: “We actively support any initiative aimed at strengthening communication channels with the Diaspora. Through our cooperation with the Public Employment Service, we are taking another step towards reversing the brain drain. We aim to provide Greeks living and working abroad with targeted information about opportunities and incentives for their return.
Our Authorities abroad will contribute in the best possible way by providing information on initiatives, actions, and programs related to their employment prospects in Greece and will ensure the organization of informative seminars on the possibilities of their return to the country. This is another action designed and implemented within the framework of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ Strategic Plan for the Greek Diaspora 2024–2027, which aims to bring Greeks abroad closer to Greece and create conditions for their return to homeland.”
The Head of the Public Employment Service (DYPA), Spyros Protopsaltis, stated: “The collaboration we are launching today with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs marks our commitment to initiatives aimed at systematically informing Greeks worldwide – especially those who emigrated abroad in recent years due to the economic crisis – about the significant employment and entrepreneurship opportunities that are now emerging in our country.
We are joining forces to shape a framework of actions, events, and incentives that will make the Greek labor market attractive once again for thousands of Greeks living and working abroad who wish to return home. At the same time, we aim to extend the DYPA’s highly successful ‘Career Days’ initiative beyond Greece’s borders to reach Greeks abroad and international talent, promoting innovative actions, contributing to the return of the country’s human capital, and supporting economic and social development.”
