The Hellenic Medical Society (HMS), an organization of physicians and healthcare professionals of Hellenic heritage based in New York, proudly announces the launch of its 2026 Scholarship Program, continuing its longstanding commitment to supporting academic excellence and fostering opportunities within the Hellenic community.

Scholarships will be awarded across three categories: Medical Students, Physicians-in-Training, and Researchers, with both merit-based and need-based awards available. The program is open to applicants of Hellenic descent who meet the established eligibility criteria.
For 90 years, HMS has served as a hub of excellence, mentorship, and professional growth. For more than five decades, its scholarship program—founded through the vision of Dr. Marinos Petratos—has helped transform ambition into achievement, supporting generations of students as they pursue careers in medicine and research.
What began as one individual’s belief in the potential of young people has evolved into a powerful and enduring legacy. Many scholarship recipients have gone on to distinguished careers and continue to support HMS as mentors, leaders, and donors, sustaining a meaningful cycle of giving within the community.
HMS extends its sincere gratitude to all donors, supporters, and alumni whose contributions make this program possible.
The final application deadline is July 1, 2026. Applicants are encouraged to review eligibility requirements and submit all required materials in advance.

As HMS looks ahead to its 90th Anniversary Gala on December 19, it celebrates not only its rich history but also the future—one shaped by the students and professionals who will benefit from these opportunities. The community is encouraged to help spread the word and support the next generation of medical leaders.
HMS also welcomes experienced healthcare professionals to join its growing network, dedicated to fellowship, education, collaboration, and the advancement of the medical community. Students (including high school, pre-med, allied health, and medical) and young professionals under the age of 35 are invited to join free of charge and become part of this dynamic and supportive community. “Friends of Medicine” are also encouraged to become members and benefit from valuable networking opportunities and meaningful community engagement.
In addition, those interested in attending the inaugural Hippocratic Medical Symposium on April 19 are invited to express their interest in order to receive a pass. This year’s Symposium will focus on Heart & Vascular Innovation and will convene leading physicians, scientists, researchers, and emerging medical professionals to explore the future of cardiovascular medicine.
